Protetcting the interest of our stakeholders

WHO IS THE SJHDNA?

Founded in 2004, the St. James Historic District Neighborhood Association (SJHDNA) is a grass roots organization started by it's residents. From  "watch-dogging" projects; and looking out for the best interest for public safety, traffic and historical  preservation. The Association is dedicated to represent, protect and enhance our neighborhood’s quality of life & historical assets  in the spirit of community, preservation and smart growth.

Location

The neighborhood  is located between St. John Street to the south,  Bassett to the north, west to North San Pedro and east to North 3rd street.

High density housing.  This area is known for it's upscale- boutique style, low to mid rise condos, town homes, lofts & luxury apartment. There are several beautifully restored Victorians, which today, predominantly serve as offices.

Partnerships

Strategic relationships with developers, businesses, city officials, residents -  strengthens partnerships which foster historic preservation and education; economic growth & sustainability; community advocacy & public safety awareness - invigorating and contributing to downtown San Jose's urban renaissance. These groups are (Key) :

-St. James Park Advisory Committee (community driven)

-Preservation Action Council SJ(non-profit)

-History San Jose (non-profit)

-San Jose Downtown Association  (non-profit)

-United Neighborhoods of Santa Clara County (non-profit)

-D3 Neighborhood Advisory Group (NAG)

-3rd Street Community Center (non-profit)

-Office of  PRNS & Planning (City of San Jose)

Cultivating these relationships,  starts  first by being objective  and understanding of eachother's  strengths, as well as their limitations.  Finding "our  fit"  will help motivate and  develop strategies (and tactics) , eventually sharing and making available (to eachother)  RESOURCES that will bring VALUE to our causes , earning the trust and confidence of every stakeholder who is involved and actively participates.

In addition, teaming with  other neighborhood associations can bring  a  more gritty "grass roots support" driving ever closer towards consensus.

Partnerships ARE KEY in developing a safe & positive environment for St. James Historic , as well as for the  overall success of downtown San Jose.

    What is...?

"A neighborhood association is a group of neighbors who get together, share ideas and work cooperatively to make their neighborhood a better place to live. "

(2007) Beautifying the neighborhood! The SJHDNA planting Daffodils at St. James Park during Daffodil Days.

Membership in a neighborhood association is voluntary and open to anyone who lives in the area.

Voluntary open membership makes neighborhood associations different from homeowners organizations.  No matter what an organization is named, it’s how the organization functions that determines what it is.

Neighborhood Associations is truly about maintaining, protecting and enhancing the quality of life for those that live in the neighbrohood.
